How do girls become sexually exploited in the first place?
A lot of girls, like Shaneiqua in the video, become involved in prostitution through a man, most times an older man, who acts like he loves her to gain her trust.
This kind of pimp/boyfriend might tell you that if you really loved him, you’d do anything for him, including selling your body.
It could be a situation where a girl is raped, gang raped, or kidnapped and forced to exchange sex for money.
A pimp will promise girls money, safety, or love if they stay with the pimp… All of these promises are lies.
Girls being sexually exploited never get to keep more than a small amount of money and are never safe from beatings and rape. Just remember, pimping is all about money and control, never love.
Pimps threaten to hurt girls or their friends and family in order to control them and to get them to sell their bodies.
Pimps mess with girls’ heads so that they think that they can’t leave, that they need the pimp, and even that their body belongs to their pimp.
Being sexually exploited makes girls at higher risk for all of the following:
• Pregnancy
• STDs such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes and syphilis
• HIV
• Depression and Suicide
• Post-traumatic stress disorder
Life for victims of sexual exploitation is full of violence and chaos. Girls in the life often feel trapped, humiliated, and put down on a daily basis. Girls are often beaten, raped, stabbed and burned by both their pimps and the johns that they’re forced to have sex with for money.
