Sexual exploitation of children is a big problem in Georgia. The average age at which children are forced to start prostituting is 13 years old. That’s bad enough, but even younger girls are involved! Girls as young as 9 have been rescued from being prostituted in Georgia.
In Atlanta, girls have been approached by pimps at MARTA stations and bus stops, shelters, malls, Underground Atlanta, and even by their friends in school.
Over 400 girls are sexually exploited each month in Georgia on the streets, on the Internet, through escort services and in major hotels. On a typical Friday or Saturday night in Georgia, at least 124 girls are sexually exploited.
When pimps sexually exploit a child, they are breaking the law. It is illegal to prostitute a child in all 50 states.
Most victims of sexual exploitation are females, but boys and transgender youth are also involved.
